Marlie Kass | Playwright
Marlie Kass is an award-winning playwright dedicated to creating works that explore the power of empathy, perseverance, and love in all its forms. Her plays have been recognized by the International Human Rights Arts Festival, The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, and the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, among other organizations. Several of her short plays have been published in anthologies and her one-act, The Stories of Myth, is currently available for licensing through YouthPLAYS.
Marlie believes theater has the power to spark necessary conversations that connect audiences far after the curtain falls. She often explores elements of fantasy to create worlds that question the foundational aspects of what it means to be human. Marlie is especially passionate in her belief that theater should be a welcoming space for all, which must be reflected through diverse characters and stories being presented onstage. She prioritizes creating gender representation that breaks beyond established binaries and beliefs, as well as crafting multi-dimensional and empowered female protagonists.
Based in Boston, Marlie is currently studying at Princeton University, pursuing degrees in English and Theater. In 2024, she was recognized by the Lewis Center for the Arts for Outstanding Work by a First Year in Theater. She was also named a Bernstein Arts Leadership Fellow, providing her with the opportunity to spend the summer interning at the American Repertory Theater as the only first-year student to receive summer funding that year.
